Oh New York, how will I ever put into words your invigorating beauty? Pictures truly don’t do you justice, nor can words describe your depth. New York City far exceeded our expectations. We’ve all seen the numerous movies and television shows filmed in “the city that never sleeps;” we’ve heard the rumors of its magic and felt the excitement of every story, but absolutely nothing compares to experiencing it yourself. From the towering buildings to the street lined shops, there is rarely a moment to spare. From the second floor nail salons to quaint bakeries on every corner, there are hidden gems to be found behind every closed door. City parks, lit up buildings that reach the sky; food trucks and bodegas, National monuments and Saks Fifth Avenue, it’s truly impossible to find yourself with nothing to do. For a city where no one owns a car, the streets are filled with honking drivers. The bustling sidewalks deserve their own traffic signs and stop lights. No two people you meet bare the same accent nor share the same birthplace. For every two “New Yorkers” there are three “out of towners.” There’s no whispering or hushed rumors to be heard. Everyone races against a clock that seems to never end yet is always keeping time. A dollar can be made in a million ways, even it’s just smiling for a picture. (Yes, we fell for that!) I woke eager to join the hustle and bustle taking place below me, and ended the day with my head saying “you’re in the city that never sleeps” while my body screamed “I’m not used to this much cardio, GO TO BED!” NYC was exhausting and absolutely invigorating all at the same time, and I will forever savor its beauty, long for its touch, and cherish its memory.
