“That man is truly happy who can say all of his substance, be it little or be it much, the Lord gave it to me.” -Charles Spurgeon

Not even a year ago this ground was but a forest, covered in pine needles, thorny weeds, and a multitude of trees. We cleared an acre for our homesite, leaving nothing behind but bare earth. We have slowly, with a lot of hard work, time, and money, made this stead our home.

The grass you see, may seem but a simple thing, something so familiar and vast that it is often taken for granted. To us, however, it is just another reminder of God’s blessing of our home.

For 9 months this spot has been dirt — mud when it rained, and so we planted grass. What started as a seed, covered in hay, and showered in lots of hose water and prayer, is now a yard full of grass. Grass we planted ourselves, (with the laborious help of family).

How silly, you must be thinking, but if you have experienced loss, grief, and a time of very little materialistic substance, you understand not only the joy, but the overwhelming gratefulness of such a small thing as a green yard. And not any yard, but a yard fashioned by our own hands with the mercy, help, and blessings of God.
